Why To Read

An intimate portrait of a small town reeling from the aftermath of a tragedy, and how that tragedy impacts families for years to come, this manuscript deftly combines a murder mystery with nostalgia for American values that not only works for the story, but will also keep the reader thinking. The world that the writer creates is three-dimensional and authentic, while the characters that inhabit it are emotional and complex. Rather than give into thriller and conspiracy elements, this manuscript takes a more meditative and artistic approach that creates an eerie but realistic tone. The quality writing and artistic strength of this piece will certainly attract attention.

I posted 4 other novels on INKSHARES, though have not launched them into the twitter feed. One novel, LOSING AUGUST, is also in screenplay form. Why To Read

An incredibly strong pilot that dangles talent and awards bait. Great writing that just lets the drama bleed off the page. Has all of the makings of a great cable, pay cable series ready to fill the hole that will be left once Mad Men is retired. Serialized, glamorous, and addictive.

Biography

Tony Lippera began his career in television production in New York. Upon relocation to Los Angeles, he worked at Disney, boutique talent agencies such as McCartt Oreck Barrett and Metropolitan as well his old college buddy's casting company, Slater-Brooksbank (with whom he cowrote 'Summer of 92'). Family obligations forced a career detour outside the industry (the basis for 'An American Family,') but upon their completion he threw himself into pursuit of his true passion, television writing. Tony once drove the diva of a cancelled soap to tears on the last day of a job she had held for 35 years (on which he was an intern), and she's the inspiration for Mary in Another/World.

Why To Read

A lean, character-driven story that examines what makes a family a family. This will easily appeal to a four-quadrant audience, as young people can directly relate to the protagonist's plight, and older audiences will be given an escape from the harsh realities of the world and transported to the beautiful French countryside. This could easily, and with very little effort in the adaptation process, become the feel good movie of the year, packed with laughs and heart. This is a coming-of-age story that is reminiscent of all the best family stories, put in a new setting with likeable characters and a climax that will be all too much fun on the big screen.

Why To Read

Straight from the opening scene, we have such a clear view of the protagonist who's buried in her work not noticing as a bomb squad operates outside. We immediately understand and the chaotic, turbulent world we're diving into. It's set up with skill and humor, establishing a tone and voice that brings the reader into the heart of everyday life in terror-laden Belfast, without ever giving into despair - a major theme of this inspiring story. By creating layered, outsider characters and giving them a clear, sky-high goal in opening a gay club in a heavily religious city, the writer dares you not to root for these crazy kids and their dreams. This is the rare feel-good period drama that feels effortlessly modern.

Biography

I trained as an actor at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and graduated BA Acting in 2009. Since graduating I have worked mostly in theatre touring the UK, Europe and A brief stint on Broadway, NYC. Though my experience is in the theatre I have always been passionate about film and recently become more interested in writing. In 2016 I completed the Screen Writing Fundamentals course at the Metropolitan Film School (Ealing Studios - London). I am normally based between Belfast (my home) and London, though I am currently touring South East Asia. My mother was the inspiration to write 105 Royal Avenue as is it a true story based on her life. I hope I can do it justice.

Genres

Drama, Comedy

Why To Read

An exceptionally well-written pilot that seamlessly balances rich and relevant dramatic topics such as race and class with the humor and realism of its characters, elevating this show well beyond its setting. In the same way that FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS is remembered as a powerful drama rather than a sports show, this series provides a smart and relatable set of characters with a grounded and emotional look at what it means to fight for your dreams, deal with your losses, and remember to have a little fun in between. This is a broadcast or cable show that has seasons of story to pluck from and a built-in audience just waiting for it.

Biography

Mary is a writer, and a lover of live music and sports... but above all else, she's an avid baseball fan. Born and Raised in the East Bay of Northern California, she spent her early days at local baseball fields watching her big brother play ball from the time she was born to age 13. She later left California for the Big Sky State and graduated from the Montana State University - Bozeman Film Program. Mary now resides in Southern California where she has been working in Television Production since 2012. When not at work on somebody else's show, Mary spends her time creating her own dream projects (often sports related, like BUS LEAGUE KNOCKS), or live tweeting Bay Area baseball, basketball, or football games and writing op-ed pieces for her baseball-based site, blondeonbaseball.com. Like a true fan, Mary proudly displays her Nor Cal roots (Black & Orange, Yellow & Blue, Gold & Red) in Dodger Blue Country.

Genres

Family, Sci-Fi, Comedy, Adventure

Why To Read

This is a wonderful premise for a preteen, middle school audience. The characters are smart and funny, and every child will be able to relate to having an adult's voice in their head constantly making them do things that they don't want to do. The interaction between the characters will have you laughing out loud, and the humor alone keeps you entertained throughout the story. So it is an added bonus that the energy the author infuses into the writing also does an amazing job of keeping you engaged from start to finish. The story is upbeat and clever, which is exactly what's needed to keep the attention of the intended young audience. From the first page to the last, the author shows ingenuity and originality in storytelling, while keeping up the wit and mysteries at the same time.

Biography

Former freelance digital content strategist for authors who served for a brief stint as the Social Media and Publicity Manager for an indie publishing house, turned writer by day and bartender by night. Deeply inspired by the work of Henry Jenkins, Frank Rose and Jeff Gomez, my writing springs from the idea that storyworlds no longer need to be contained in book form, and are far better for it, and is rooted in the belief that because of the very traditional approach to middle-grade publishing, a large portion of this important (and voracious) demographic is getting left behind. My stories meets kids where they are spending an increasing amount of time, on devices, and allows for the type of immersion and interactivity this audience craves. I have been writing children's fiction for over a decade, I am a member of The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) and a Global Moderator for SCBWI's message boards.

Comedy, Romance

Why To Read

This is a fast-paced comedy with banter that will remind you of the rom-com classics of yesteryear. The characters are easy to see, and they're all vividly described both inside and out. They all have interesting quirks and telling ticks that make you feel like part of this world. From the moment you pick this up you already know these people, and you want to see more. But it's the twist of the story that sets this manuscript apart. The therapy technique that has the protagonists moving in with their patients for several weeks, so they can see the problems firsthand, is a fresh, innovative approach, and makes for endless amounts of funny and dramatic scenarios.

Biography

After graduating from Cornell and earning a Master's from Syracuse University's Newhouse School, I foolishly side-stepped my passion for writing and directing by working ten years in marketing and advertising. Drained from wearing a tie and overusing words like 'synergy,' I embarked on Act Two by becoming a film professor and founding director of the Television and Film Arts program at SUNY Buffalo State. Inspired by my plunge into academia and hoping to impress my parents, I wrote a fairly well-reviewed book entitled, 'Reflections of the Shadow: Creating Memorable Heroes and Villains for Film and TV' (Michael Wiese Books). Subsequently, I wrote and directed the comedy shorts, 'Why Can't They All Be Like Johnny Depp?' and 'Maxed Out.' Both shorts screened at major film festivals and are being developed as feature films. I also wrote and directed the half-hour dramedy pilot, 'Unfiltered' (based on a series I created), which was an Official Selection at the Pilot Light TV Festival in England. My feature script for 'Why Can't They All Be Like Johnny Depp?' was a winner of the WGA's Screenplay Reading Series, and I directed the WGA's TV Pilots Resurrected program at Lincoln Center in New York. A member of the WGA and Friars Club, I have also written for Showtime and ABC. I live with my wife, three boys, and dogs Al (after Alfred Hitchcock) and Stanley (after Stan Lee) in Upstate New York.
